Moonta, Kadina, and Wallaroo – South Australia
THE Preliminary program for the 2015 Kernewek Lowender (Copper Coast Cornish) Festival (17-24 May) has been released and it is one of the best ever.
More new events have been incorporated, marrying well with the tried and true which have earned us major event status and plenty of accolades over the years.
There’s a record 60 and more events and activities to be staged in the three Copper Coast towns over 8 days, and all looks set to again attract 35,000-plus crowds, due to our fantastic and committed local KL committee, organisations, clubs and conveners.
Thanks to new major sponsor Drakes Supermarkets the “Drakes Foodland Moonta Parade and Street Party” on 22 May 2015—staged by Moonta Progress Association and Moonta National Trust—will feature the Procession, Maypole and Furry Dancing, the giant pasty bake-off, the Band of the South Australia
Police, and the official wel-come in Queen Square.
The big Village Green Fair is on again in Kadina (Saturday, 23 May), run by the Northern Yorke Peninsula Rotary Club. Attractions here will include markets, rotunda entertain-ment, the Cousin Jack and Jenny competition, Maypole and Furry Dancing, the Strong-man competition, showrides and, new in 2015, Piskey Hollow Hall (Kadina Town Hall) offering a wonderland of chil-dren’s activities.
Then on Sunday, (24 May) the massive RAA Copper Coast Classic Cavalcade of Cars and Motorcycles will again wind its way from Wallaroo, to Moonta and onto Kadina oval for the Cavalcade Fun Fair.
In entertainment news, Cornish comedy has been intro-duced into the program and we can’t wait to welcome “the Kernow King” from Cornwall who will present a two hour show at The Ascot Theatre
Also pop up at the Cornish “Troyl” Dinner Dance — another new event —at Wallaroo Community Sports Club featuring Australia’s Best Celtic Rock/Roots band, The Borderers.
The two sold out inaugural concerts in 2013 are back again in 2015 —The Bonanza Concert showcasing our exceptional local talent; and the Country Music concert this time to feature the top class Wayne Horsburgh, Graeme Hugo and Amber Joy Poulton.
